Challenge
A cooperative agreement between the U.S. Army Futures Command and The Texas A&M University System resulted in the creation of the Bush Combat Development Complex (BCDC), envisioned as a place to research new technologies for modernizing the U.S. Army and advancing national security. Appropriately, the complex was be located on the RELLIS Campus, a technology and testing research hub that facilitates collaboration between private and public sector companies. The client needed a new, highly visible headquarters/research building to anchor the new BCDC and announce its location on the RELLIS Campus.
Solution
Texas A&M hired Energy Architecture to design the new headquarters building, appropriately named the Research Integration Center. The three-story facility features laboratories, maker spaces, offices and collaboration spaces for academia, industry, government, and the military. It includes spaces for research and product development in the areas of hypersonics, directed energy, next-generation vehicles, communications, network systems, and precision navigation and timing. The BCDC’s goal is to shorten the time it takes to get emerging technologies from the lab to the field.
