Challenge

The client required a substantial laboratory retrofit and remodel to accommodate its highly technical processes and complex equipment. The laboratory’s previous occupants did not require as much power, lab gases, or ventilation to operate their lab. Our design team was challenged to minimize costly and time-consuming infrastructure changes to the existing building.

Solution

To support a significantly higher equipment load, we created bench-level efficiencies by retrofitting the existing lab and support spaces without altering partitions. We verified that the existing electrical infrastructure could accommodate the increased demand from more complex bench-top equipment. For expanded lab gas requirements, we introduced above-bench gas distribution and direct, safely routed plumbing chases to improve testing flexibility. By strategically reusing existing Phoenix valves and minimizing structural interventions, we streamlined new exhaust duct installations to upgrade the ventilation systems.
