Challenge
After Baker Hughes acquire a small manufacturer of flexible composite pipe for onshore oil production, company executives wanted to relocate to Houston and expand production capabilities with a larger, more permanent facility.
Solution
Before embarking on a design solution, we met with the client’s pipe manufacturing process experts and toured their facilities in Midland, Texas; Newcastle, United Kingdom; and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to better understand the infrastructure and space requirements. We helped the client identify a facility that could meet the utility and structural requirements, and appropriate physical dimensions necessary for the new extrusion and tape lines, providing conceptual designs and test fits for the production lines. Working directly with the client’s major equipment vendors, we analyzed the flow of goods, infrastructure connections, and maintenance activities for all lines. We redesigned the foundation and superstructure for the lines, QA labs, and manufacturing support spaces, and reconfigured the production area to accommodate the manufacturing of thermoplastic hoses in various diameters.
