Challenge

The college needed a purpose-built training facility to meet the growing market demand for heavy-duty diesel technicians. The previous facility, an older retrofitted building, was located on a site with multiple elevation changes that disrupted workflow and resulted in an inefficient use of space. The layout divided lab functions from classroom areas, limiting hands-on instruction and class size.

Solution

We designed this one-story pre-engineered metal building to accommodate a 40% increase in program enrollment. The facility includes administrative offices, a seminar room for lectures and group learning, and essential support spaces for students and instructors. We created open, flexible lab spaces to support a variety of teaching methods and evolving curriculum needs. We incorporated clerestory windows just below the roofline to enhance the interior environment, allowing natural light to flood the building. The structural system is also designed for future scalability, permitting expansion for up to three structural bays along the west side, ensuring the facility can grow alongside industry demand.
